Metal News: Death metal guitarist arrested for burglary as ammo explodes inside his burning

Posted by SaZ on Tuesday, December 11 @ 19:06:57 EST (15 reads)

NORTHDALE, Fla. (WFLA) - One of the most popular death metal guitarists in the country has been arrested after a Northdale home caught fire with exploding ammunition inside. The massive fire broke out Monday night at a home on Norwood Drive near Roseberry Lane. Deputies say Pat O'Brien, a Tampa-based death metal guitarist, lives in the home. Hillsborough County firefighters were able to get the fire under control after about an hour but struggled with the ammunition inside exploding due to the flames. "It was crazy. It was crazy. It was like the end of a fireworks display. Really crazy. Pop. Pop. Pop. Pop.  That loud bang. It was crazy," said neighbor Caroline North. Crews remained at the scene throughout the night and kept the road blocked off long after the fire was put out. "An across the street neighbor who knows him said he has a flame thrower or something. And he practices with it. I don't know if it was purposely or stupidly," North said. Around the same time the house caught fire, the sheriff's office got a call about a burglary in progress at a nearby home on Windflower Circle. An arrest report shows O'Brien went in the house without permission and ignored orders from the family to leave. A sheriff's office supervisor says O'Brien pushed a woman down inside the house then went into the backyard. Deputies responding to the burglary found O'Brien hiding behind a fence near the home. They say O'Brien charged at them with a knife. Deputies then used a Taser to take him down.  O'Brien is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. A Hillsborough County judge set his bond at $50,000 Tuesday morning. O'Brien is required to complete a drug test before he's able to bond out of jail.  Fire officials are trying to determine the cause of the fire.  O'Brien is the lead guitarist for the death metal band Cannibal Corpse. The group has a large following around the world with nearly 2 million Facebook followers. The band announced Monday they would be part of an upcoming leg of Slayer's farewell tour.

Metal News: OVERKILL Reveal New Album, 'The Wings Of War', Out February 22, 2019!

Posted by SaZ on Monday, December 03 @ 19:16:20 EST (19 reads)

Legendary New Jersey thrashers OVERKILL will unleash their 19th studio record, The Wings Of War, on February 22, 2019 via Nuclear Blast . Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth comments, "It was a blast making The Wings of War! It is something old feeling new again, as our chemistry was altered by the addition of Jason Bittner. I was curious from the get-go, how would it pan out? I think what we accomplished here is a new, upgraded Overkill that embraced the new chemistry, while taking our roots into the present. The new formula produced not only more raw power, but more places to go with melody, a win, win. The key is being not only interested in the change, but part of it. I'll tell you what, it's still fun as hell making Overkill records.

The Wings Of War was recorded at Gear Recording Studio in New Jersey, SKH Studio in Florida and Jrod Productions with engineering handled by DD and Dave. The album was produced by the band while Chris "Zeuss" Harris.handled the mixing and mastering. Travis Smith (NEVERMORE, OPETH, SOILWORK, DEATH...) was once again enlisted to create the artwork for the album. 'The Wings Of War' Track Listing
1 Last Man Standing

Metal News: MALEVOLENT CREATION – announce release date for new studio album

“No one can destroy this MALEVOLENT CREATION” is a legendary line by the late, great Bret Hoffmann, who passed away on July 7th, 2018. Renowned and revered for his vicious vocal style and unique onstage presence, Hoffmann is impossible to replace, but co-founder Phil Fasciana decided to face the challenge and affirm the truth behind this lyric from the group’s 1991 debut “The Ten Commandments”. Now, MALEVOLENT CREATION have confirmed January 18th, 2019 as the release date for “The 13th Beast”, which introduces a new line-up consisting of Phil Cancilla (drums), Josh Gibbs (bass), Phil Fasciana (guitars) and vocalist/guitarist Lee Wollenschlaeger (Throne Of Nails, Imperial Empire).
“This is the biggest honour I could ever be given”, says Lee Wollenschlaeger.“The opportunity to front one of my all-time favourite bands, and an even bigger pleasure of jamming with such great people. We have created one of the most relentless albums of MALEVOLENT CREATION’s history. As a fan, I know we are going to shock a lot of people at how intense this new album is. Done in a way only MALEVOLENT CREATION can. I can’t wait to see all you guys on the road in 2019 and beyond, playing songs from all the albums, including our new album, “The 13th Beast”!” “Lee was the missing link when I was searching for a new vocalist and guitarist”, adds Phil Fasciana. “Each new member is a solid musician and songwriter sharing the same passion for extreme music MALEVOLENT CREATION has been striving for since 1987. I’m very proud of this album and look forward to present it live as well as songs from our massive back catalog including stuff that hasn't been played live in a long time or ever.” Musically, “The 13th Beast” expands upon 2014’s “Dead Man’s Path” yet also incorporates a brutality known from albums such as “The Will To Kill” and “Eternal” which is further accentuated by Wollenschlaeger’s understandable yet deeper vocal tone and songwriting contributions. Just like “Dead Man’s Path”, the record offers artwork by German Latorres, and was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö @ Unisound. A first song from the album will be released on November 30th, 2018. “The 13th Beast” will be released as black and limited coloured LP plus 4-page LP booklet, CD, and digitally – presales start November 23rd, 2018. MALEVOLENT CREATION – “The 13th Beast”:

01. End The Torture
02. Mandatory Butchery
03. Agony For The Chosen
04. Canvas Of Flesh
05. Born Of Pain
06. The Beast Awakened
07. Decimated
08. Bleed Us Free
09. Knife At Hand

Metal News: Bloodbath - New Video Released

Posted by admin on Sunday, October 21 @ 13:14:08 EDT (32 reads)

Prepare for a blood-soaked video from Bloodbath! The Swedish death metallers have debuted a video directed by Ash Pears for the tune "Chainsaw Lullaby". The video is a gore-filled, blood splattered ode to their weapon of choice spliced together with an AC/DC inspired death 'n' roll soundtrack.

Guitarist Anders 'Blakkheim' Nystrom explained: "I wanted to keep it really simple and uncomplicated whilst retaining an evil groovy drive to make the song engage in headbanging action and sing along exercises. Having started a 'red' thread, I then locked in the chainsaw concept as a dual tribute to the Boss HM-2 guitar pedal sound as well as my love for the horror slasher genre and had both the music and lyrics going at the same time. I've always been a fan of lyrical paradoxes and the song title was just waiting to happen."

The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn is a new slab of old-school, HM-2 driven blackness, set to be unleashed on the world on 26th October via Peaceville Records. This is the second album with Old Nick on vocals.
